Despite the fact that its headquarters in Ebeltoft, Denmark, is 100 per cent fuelled by renewable energy, Kvadrat's strongest sustainability policy is actually its use and disposal of fabrics. With environmental issues such as climate change and plastic pollution dominating the headlines, what are design brands doing to help the planet? From Kvadrat to Emeco, we've selected eight companies doing their bit to promote sustainability. Beckman of PCL is a seeing growing demand for net zero, a target that is showing up more often in requests for proposals. Further, CannonDesign also is using project-specific standards like the Collaborative for High Performance Schools standard for school projects. “Our approach is to go beyond the checklist and use these standards as a framework for discussions with our clients and uncover all of the possibilities for what’s best for them and the project,” says Freed.

Other options include 40% to 60% relative humidity, UV germicidal irradiation and bipolar ionization—each activating the air people breathe to reduce aerosol spread and lower infection rates. “At the local/zone level, MERV-13 filters and ionizers in fan-terminal units can limit aerosol spread to other zones. And at the central unit level, enhanced filtration, ventilation, hours of operation and air purification are key,” says George Karidis, corporate design director of SmithGroup. More and more, local and state governments, along with some institutional and corporate clients, are requiring firms to adopt aggressive sustainability targets. “In states like California with a relatively clean power grid, the focus has shifted from LEED Gold or Platinum to operational net zero carbon,” says Hyman of ZGF Architects. Transform existing structures for new purposes, reducing environmental impact by repurposing and preserving historical significance.

As noted in Our History, ESD was founded on a revolutionary approach to solving a problem for our first client that has become an industry standard today. Changes in technology, regulations, and the social and literal environment mean that today’s genius is outdated tomorrow. Central to LCDsongkhla's ethos is the embodiment of Songkhla's rich heritage, epitomized by the creation of 'Luang Pu Thuat', a revered figure steeped in local lore. Innovations in design, including the use of lightweight materials sprayed with polyurea, lend an ethereal quality to the statue, seemingly suspended above the water—a testament to advanced engineering and artistic finesse. By coordinating with the Clients' designated Project Management and other architecture + engineering [A+E] consultants, including stakeholders,  we ensure a 'same-page expectations'  on quality of project delivery.

By integrating these sustainable design strategies into projects, designers can contribute to a more sustainable future while delivering innovative and impactful solutions that benefit both people and the planet. Furthermore, the park offers immersive experiences, such as birdwatching zones nestled amidst mangrove forests. These viewpoints boast eco-friendly designs, incorporating recycled, low-carbon materials to minimize environmental impact. Notably, iconic landmarks like the SPIDER+CraB sculpture exemplify the park's commitment to sustainable creativity, inviting visitors to interact and capture memorable moments. Many design firms are adjusting their design processes to help reduce embodied carbon and reduce a structure’s overall carbon footprint.

A collaborative, resilient and sustainable community building.

environmental design solutions

Environmental designers often collaborate with architects, urban planners, landscape architects, and other professionals to ensure that their designs align with principles of sustainability, conservation, and resilience. The modern world requires a chemical industry that can run at low production costs while producing high-quality products with minimal environmental impact. The development of environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and efficient wastewater treatment materials remains a major problem for the sustainable approach.

We prepared nanoscale cadmium sulfide (CdS)-enwrapped polypyrrole (PPy) polymer composites for degradation of organic pollutants. Consequently, the catalytic efficiency of the synthesized hybrid nanocomposites was analyzed through the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (Rh B) under visible light irradiation. The measured degradation efficiency of the dye solutions under the photolysis process is about 18% and 23% for MB and Rh B dye, respectively. Furthermore, the recycle test result concludes that the CdS@PPy composite exhibits 91% and 89% of MB and Rh B dye degradation efficiency even at the 4th cycle, respectively. The positive synergistic impact of CdS and PPy may be the result of effective photocatalytic degradation of MB and RhB.

Data availability

As consumers demand eco-friendly options and regulations become more stringent, embracing sustainable design is responsible and essential for creating a more harmonious and resilient world. Technology plays a significant role in the workplace of environmental designers. They utilize design software, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other digital tools to create visual representations of their concepts, analyze spatial data, and communicate their ideas effectively. As advocates for sustainability, environmental designers often stay updated on the latest advancements in green technologies, eco-friendly materials, and environmentally conscious design practices.

Apart from COVID-19 concerns, many firms are looking at new ideas for overall sustainability in their projects. For example, SmithGroup is exploring new sewage heat exchange systems. “We’ve been using geothermal heat exchange to improve HVAC efficiency for nearly two decades, but this strategy often is not viable for urban locations with site constraints,” says Mella.

Our welcome and arrival statements that also are  signage elements often double up as pieces of environmental art. Our placemaking hinges on meeting the fundamental human and social aspiration for green spaces for which human perception is naturally hardwired to. While Emeco's aluminium chairs are 100 per cent recyclable, the company believes that the most sustainable aspect of its chairs is in its estimated life span of 150 years. In addition to this, Vestre donates at least 10 per cent of its annual profits every year to sustainable projects worldwide. Kvadrat also donates the textiles no longer in its standard collection to charitable institutions or creative projects, or sells them for cheap through the Queen of Raw online fabric marketplace.

Real-world case studies of successful sustainable design implementations provide invaluable insights into the transformative power of eco-conscious practices. These examples showcase the positive impact of sustainability on diverse projects and industries. Prioritize locally sourced, eco-friendly materials with low embodied energy and high recyclability. This choice reduces environmental impact and supports responsible resource management and the principles of a circular economy. “I feel like the possibilities are there and we need more interdisciplinary integration … because as an environmental scientist, I wouldn't even have thought of looking into quantum solutions. Syed and Boreiri, co-founders of Swish, are developing a green-tech solution for cleaning solar panels that have accumulated dust, debris and snow which reduces their efficiency.

For those projects going forward, sustainability remains a key factor in client thinking. The projects that are going forward continue to pursue sustainable design, perhaps more than ever. “An emphasis on resilience and health was growing in our sustainability discussions before the pandemic, but COVID-19 was a catalyst to put an even greater emphasis on these issues,” says Greg Mella, corporate director of sustainability at SmithGroup. He says that COVID-19 demonstrated how the built environment impacts health outcomes. Bridging landscape architecture and urban planning, we shape the urban form to their component  patterns and elements within  the public realm of roadways and civic space through policy and design.

Thoughtfully configured site circulation for vehicles, pedestrians and support services  remain our focus for creating safe, walkable environments and engaging spaces. However, a big inventive step is needed since we as classical beings experience the world through a classical lens. Creativity is essential to discover where a quantum device can have impact.

Reimagining the Modern Healthcare Facility

As the business model for large health systems continues to evolve, we are ready to find new healthcare uses and opportunities for existing buildings. This exciting development provides greater value for you, creates growth opportunities for our employees, and increases our positive impact in the community. There also is the most obvious tangible return in the financial benefits of increased financial value  created by intelligently designed outdoors and lifestyle solutions. In recent years Tacchini has started to incorporate more reusable, recyclable and renewable materials in its furniture.

Thammasat - The First University for the People

By embracing the principles and strategies outlined in this guide, individuals and industries can contribute to a more sustainable future. From architecture to technology and fashion, every field has the potential to champion eco-conscious design, fostering a world where innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. These case studies underscore how sustainable design can reshape industries, inspiring businesses and individuals. By embracing innovative approaches and integrating sustainability into core practices, organizations can drive positive change while reaping benefits far beyond the bottom line.

Solar panels are used as a source of renewable energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in both residential utility and commercial scale. But the common problem they found with cleaning solar panels is the large amount of water usage. We are thrilled to announce that the University of Guelph’s School of Environmental Design and Rural Development will partner with Forest Foundation Philippines for their project on nature-based solutions to climate change.

ESA brings a multidisciplinary approach to our work that combines science, planning, engineering, and design. We nurture an open, collaborative environment where cross-functional teams work seamlessly together, combining their technical and field-based experience. We believe the collaboration between different disciplines creates better outcomes, and it is this integration and synergy that brings added value to clients. Embodied carbon, the amount of carbon released in the manufacture and transport of building materials and supplies, is quickly emerging as a major focus in the design and construction industry. “We have been researching low carbon concrete options for several years and had the opportunity to use CarbonCure on a project for an airport client this year,” says Beckman. However, these actions led many owners to seek out alternative green standards.

He’s concerned that if we don’t achieve this goal by 2050, our society will have caused irreversible damages to the environment. Rooted in the ethos of self-reliance and inspired by the rich cultural legacy of Nora, NORA PURA emerges as a beacon of innovation aimed at nurturing a resilient, vibrant society. This visionary project seeks to integrate the principles of Low-cost Design Solutions (LCDs) to revolutionize community development.

For example, SmithGroup has now started to invite structural engineers to its early-concept sustainable design charrettes. Further, the damage done by COVID-19 will not just be measured in people infected and people who die. The legal and insurance industries are beginning to sort out who is liable for catastrophic financial losses due to shocks and stresses from pandemic to climate change related impacts. Everyone from owners to tenants to design professionals, construction firms, product manufacturers and even brokers may be at risk. Sustainable design is not just a trend but a vital approach to creating a harmonious balance between human needs and the health of our planet.

Right away, you can tell that this tool has a much cleaner design. You start by uploading your image and used the same fish image that I used before. Then, once it’s upload you can play around with the results by adjusting the brightness and contrast and the number of beads across. Right now I'm using super duos and tila beads, but my favorite beads change with my moods so I guess the best answer is the beads I'm currently working with. Beading has touched numerous cultures as it has continued to develop. Bead weaving is believed to have started almost 70,000 years ago. While today beading and beaded jewelry is mainly used as a source for beauty, when it first originated it actually was used for value. Only the rich could truly afford the gorgeous beads, and many people would even trade their beads in the place of money. However, the first true piece of beaded jewelry came from when people had beads that they could not continuously carry around.

One downside is you currently can’t print from the site. So, when you’re done sketching out your idea, you’ll have to manually transfer it to a sheet of graph paper to keep it handy. Or you can take a screenshot of your image and print that, but you’ll lose the background grid in the printout which can be frustrating. Another limitation is that it only designs in a square grid, so you can’t really play around and experiment designing with other canvas shapes that Perler Beads come with.

Disney Lorcana introduces the rest of Encanto’s Madrigal family

Look for an area with at least yellow fertility that doesn’t overlap with other resources like wild animals or berry deposits. Once you've upgraded your Burgage Plot to Level 2, you'll have unlocked a range of new possible Backyard Extensions. One of these extensions is the Brewery, which is what you need to turn Malt into Ale. Grilled pita, fresh cut gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce. Deep fried shrimp tossed in boom boom sauce served on a bed of lettuce.

Deep fried chicken strips, french fries and a choice of wing sauce. Over time, planting the same crop over and over will reduce the fertility (and productivity) of a field. To avoid that, you’ve got a couple options, but the easiest is just to rotate your crops. Farming in Manor Lords takes a lot of work to understand and it’s hard to make it work properly.

It's Trivia Season!

The fertility the overlay is showing you is basically how much of a given crop that chunk of land will produce. Red means not much, yellow is average, and green is quite a bit. First, you’ll need to find a fertile patch of land and place some fields on it. But the fields can’t be too big (see below) or else they won’t get planted in time for the crop to grow and you’ll miss out on an entire year of farming.

barley house

This will let you place four points to define a plot of farmland. You'll know if a Burgage Plot has a Backyard Extension slot because when you click on it, there will be a dropdown menu next to the Upgrade button where you can choose an extension. To build a new Plot with a Backyard Extension slot, look for an icon of a house with a hammer inside it when placing down the corners of the Plot. Next, you should select one of your Burgage Plots with a Backyard Extension slot (or build one if you don't have it), and upgrade that plot to Level 2. The upgrade itself only costs 4x Timber, but you can only upgrade a Burgage Plot if all its happiness requirements are met. That means you'll need a nearby Well, Church, and Marketplace with stalls for Food, Firewood, and Clothing.

Menu

That's the entire process of making Ale in Manor Lords laid out for you to follow. If you're look to set up more production lines for important resources, why not check out our guide on how to get Sheep? You can also consult our guides on how to increase your Treasury and Influence. The next step is to construct a Farm next to your Farmhouse, making sure it is built over the highest possible Barley Fertility.

barley house

The size of the Farm depends on your needs, but we'd recommend a starting Farm of around 1-1.5 Morgen (you'll see how big that is once you start placing the corners of the Farm). As with most city-builders, Manor Lords has a frightful number of different resources to craft, and needs to fulfil to keep your populace happy. And as we all know, the key to a happy citizen is alcohol. Ale can be drunk at a Tavern to keep your citizens jolly, but the process to create your own Ale is not at all straightforward.

Served with pickles and your choice of chips, coleslaw or choice of sandwich side substitute. Add Onion Rings, sweet potato fries or mac & cheese for $3. As you level up your town, you’ll earn development points that unlock new technologies for your town to use. This lets you add a plowing station to your farm and use an oxen to plow and move crops. This increases the area a family can handle by quite a bit — to the point where you can basically double the size of your fields (or just have twice as many fields and crops). When you click on a field, you’ll get a menu that allows you to pick what type of crop to grow the next year — wheat, flax, or barley.

Unlock the heavy plow to farm faster

In this guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to build in order to start making Ale for your Taverns in Manor Lords, from the Barley Fields all the way up to the Breweries and Taverns. If all of that sounds complicated, that’s because it is. Let’s go through every step of farming in Manor Lords so you can get your farm up and running. We’ll get into more specifics below, but let’s talk about all the pieces you’ll need to have an effective farm in Manor Lords.

Each of the crops you grow don’t do anything for you in their raw form. They all have to be processed (at least once) before they’re usable. What tasks your farm takes on depends on the season — there’s a bit of wiggle room on the dates, but the following is generally true. In the Construction menu, pick Farming and then choose a Field.

You’ll also need to make sure you have farmers available during the times of year when farm work needs to be done — mostly just in the autumn. Corn tortilla chips, tomato, onion, jalapeno, and nacho cheese. Thai Chili Sauce, grilled chicken, roasted peppers and onions, mozzarella and provolone cheese.

Due to COVID-19, we are offering a limited menu. Hot dog topped with crispy bacon, Guinness BBQ, diced white onion. Hot dog topped with diced white onion, relish, and spicy mustard. Barley House has received the prestigious award of “Top 100 Nightclub & Bar in America”, the very first establishment to ever make the list in Ohio!

"'Cruise' came out of another writing session in the middle of another song," Kelley tells Taste of Country of the day they wrote the song with their producer, Joey Moi, as well as Chase Rice and Jesse Rice. "I think we kind of have to thank the songwriting gods for that one." After studying in Paris with a famous composition teacher, Charles became the most successful writer of TV theme songs. Justin wrote the classic "Nights In White Satin," but his fondest musical memories are from a different decade.

Popular Florida Georgia Line & Nelly Lyrics

The track was first released as the opening track for their EP It'z Just What We Do, but was also added, along with the rest of the EP, to their debut studio album for Republic Nashville, titled Here’s to the Good Times, also as the opening track. Lily Allen wrote "Something's Not Right" for the soundtrack of the Peter Pan prequel, Pan. The song was inspired by the heartache that Allen experienced after suffering a miscarriage when she was six months pregnant with her first child by husband Sam Cooper in 2010. With the band in danger of being dropped from their label, Alice Cooper drummer Neal Smith co-wrote the song that started their trek from horror show curiosity to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Those aged 14 to 17 have a unique indoor/outdoor space made just for them, complete with a super secret entrance! Indoors, teens will find plenty of TVs, video games, and tablets, plus dance parties, karaoke sessions, and group activities. Or, they can head outside to a private sundeck at the bow of the ship to enjoy deck games, splash pools, and sunbathing.

Disney Dream cabins and suites

If you're out by the pool and in need of a quick lunch or a snack, stop by Flo's Cafe, which is made up of three different "Cars"-themed windows serving cruise classics like burgers, pizza, salad and chicken tenders. One thing to note about Marceline Market versus Cabanas on the other Disney ships is that at Marceline Market, crew members often fill up your plate for you and then pass it over the glass food guards. This process makes the buffet a little easier and healthier than the self-serve option. Kids ages 13 to 17 years old who attend with a younger sibling will be charged the adult price.

Disney Dream Kids Venues

Many of these venues are situated in a part of the ship known as The District, on Deck 4, which is adults-only and the ship’s nightlife hub. You can also get select room service options for free and suite guests have access to light bites in the concierge lounge. The biggest and the best of them all is the Disney Dream Royal Suite, with nearly 2,000 square feet of space (so probably larger than some travelers’ homes!), a kitchen, hot tub and separate dining space. Disney Dream offers 1,250 staterooms (inclusive of suites), including 150 interior staterooms and 1,100 exterior staterooms.

On certain cruises, there’s also a highly-demanded champagne brunch as well as a 5-course dessert experience. For dessert, indulge in the famed crème brûlée or enjoy a peanut butter mousse. These staterooms have no porthole window and no balcony, but on this ship they do have so-called “magical portholes.” These are circular video screens which offer live video views of the outside, along with occasional character sightings. Inside Staterooms are the smallest Guest rooms on the ship, but are still larger than those found on some other cruise lines. And thanks to some smart design, there’s still plenty of room for everyone and their luggage. On or about December 18, 2023, after the cruise arrived from the Bahamas, United States Customs and Border Protection officers boarded the ship and searched Neri’s cabin, according to the complaint.

Hotels

Disney Dream offers two set menus, one by each chef, for $135 per person, with wine and Champagne pairings for an additional $120 and $160, respectively. Palo is open for brunch on sea days and dinner daily, both for $50 per person. The meal starts with a complimentary Prosecco or mimosa and a bread basket that includes not-to-be-missed warm almond croissants. Sometimes, it was waiting in the always-long lines for a meet-and-greet and photo opp with characters or to drop off or pick up kids at the Oceaneer Club.

The three Rotational Dining restaurants on the Disney Dream are Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Palace. The Golden Mickeys is “a dazzling tribute to the enchanting movies of Walt Disney” (and it includes a red carpet pre-show!). Featured Disney films include — but aren’t limited to — Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Toy Story 2.

DCL-Disney Cruise Line opens new Port Everglades terminal (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

The chocolate hazelnut dessert was thankfully small because I only had room for a few delectable bites. Because Disney cruise fares are so high, most Disney Dream passengers are willing to spend money, either because they have a high vacation budget or have saved up for a special trip where they will pull out all the stops. I was surprised how many passengers were paying extra for princess makeovers at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, high-priced Disney paraphernalia from the onboard shops, and souvenir drink and popcorn containers. The Walt Disney ship Dream is company's third liner, with sistership Disney Fantasy. Each vessel is 40% larger in size than the oldest Disney ships (Magic and Wonder). While its capacity (at double occupancy) is 2500, the Dream-y ship of Disney can accommodate up to 4000 passengers at full/max occupancy (all berths).

Adult-Exclusive Dining on the Disney Dream

I waited 40 minutes on a sea-day afternoon to ride the AquaDuck, and there was no entertainment in that line, as there might be at a Disney park water attraction. Because so many of the adults on board are traveling with children, not all are free to go out at night. (Others generate a larger crowd, though.) On the upside, I did not encounter obviously inebriated folks on this cruise — though that could be because I, like so many adults, was traveling with a child and not often in the adult spaces.

Deck 13

Royal Palace is a Main Dining restaurant located on Deck 3, Midship aboard the Disney Dream. Inspired by classic Disney films like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, Royal Palace serves a mouthwatering menu of culinary delights—fit for a king or a queen—for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Two decks up, the Satellite Falls pool and sun deck provides additional sunbathing space and a wading pool with a circular rain curtain under the ship's satellite transmitter.

The swimming pools are small, but the AquaDuck has the craziest waterslide at sea, with a transparent tube spinning over the ocean. The ship provides numerous regularly scheduled activities for families, kids, teens and adults, and plenty of dining and entertainment options. Disney Dream does not offer a buffet alternative at dinner, though you can order room service or pick up burgers and chicken tenders at Tow Mater's Grill on the pool deck. If you choose these options or if the adults in your party make a reservation at the adults-only specialty restaurants, Palo and Remy, you might miss out on one of the themed main dining room experiences. The Disney Dream kids cruise fun clubs are the main reason for the line's high loyalty passengers ratio.

This restaurant offers a mix of American, Asian, and European favorites in an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast and lunch buffet served from nearly a dozen food stations. If your kids love tea parties and Disney princesses, you might want to book one of the Royal Court Royal Tea experiences on a Disney cruise. The tea party is for young cruisers ages 3 to 12, though a parent will have to accompany their children. The dining room is also open for breakfast and lunch for table service meals in a beautiful atmosphere.

The ship can hold 4,000 guests and 1,458 crew members across 1,250 staterooms. Most families stick to casual options for lunch, but if you want a sit-down, multicourse meal, the Royal Palace is there for you. Sit-down lunch is a great option on embarkation day when you don't want to drag your bags around a crowded buffet. Obviously, families with young children make up a large fraction of Disney Dream's passenger base. You'll find babies, kids and teens, as well as three-generation groups and extended family or friend groups.

Both the kids and the adults will have their own pools to love, plus the main pool that’s suitable for the entire family. Most staterooms feature dividing curtains and other smart design details to let parents and kids enjoy separate spaces, even when the kiddos have to go to bed a bit earlier. The staterooms aboard Disney Dream really stand apart because of their size.
